Nice Fridays: Only You Can Help Prevent Loan Fraud

We're a little late with Nice Friday this week; apologies!  It's been busy lately with a lot of loan scam reports coming in by email.

We received a report last week of a close call from a potential advanced-fee loan scam. She was stopped from wiring money to the scammers by an employee of a Fred Meyer grocery store.

Good evening, I just came across your article and thought I would write and let you know my experience. I will try and be short and brief.

I was trying to take out a $5,000 loan on the internet. To see if someone could help me. Someone named Ryan Anderson contacted me and claimed he worked for Metro Financial Services and said they are listed with the Better Business Bureau. He wanted to help me, I thought. That was great at first.

Then he wanted me to send him a security deposit for $630. Then they knocked the security deposit down to $360. I was going to send that to him. But I didn't.

They asked to to go to a Western Union. But I went to a Fred Meyer where I lived and they stopped me. I was going to fill a business form out. Instead, he wanted me to fill out a form and send the money to him personally . I would of had to send the money to Ontario Canada and he told me. The company he worked for is in Boston Massachusetts. So I decided not to go through with it.

The Fred Meyer store was looking out for my best interest. They had called Western Union and I had talked with them and they told me it was a scam and not to send any money to this person.

Please let others know to be careful.

Well done Fred Meyer employee! I hope there are more people like you in the wire transfer business who can stop potential victims from losing money to this scam.
