Getting on with it in an Economic Crisis
As I write this, the weather is beautiful here in California. Flowers are popping up everywhere. The news sites have been reporting how banks are changing their leadership, car companies are offering new incentives to get more sales in, the stock market has been slowly recovering. Spring is here and with it, change is definitely in the air.
In short, everybody is getting on with it. Of course, there are millions of people who have been dramatically affected by the economic turmoil of months past. And, there are probably more changes to come as people and businesses learn to adapt, economize, or change how they operate financially.
But, there is a distinctly different mood in the business environment then even two months ago. It is as though the first shock wave has passed, people have raised their heads, and said “Well I guess we're still here!”
Whether you are a person working a regular job, unemployed, or running your own business, this is the time to take action. This is NOT the time to bemoan your losses, sit around watching television if you are unemployed, or succumb to hopelessness. There will be time to heal in the future once you have created enough stability to catch your breath.
In the meantime, you should realize that our economy and business environment is still in an emergency situation. But, there is an opening where industrious men and women can once again take charge of their environment to create meaningful change.
One of the factors that has been very frustrating about the current economic crisis is how powerless most people have felt about their own ability to influence the outcome. After all, very few of us were involved in creating the stock market crash, mortgage debacle or this nasty recession. Your own contributions to the society and general welfare have probably been steady and consistent. So, it's understandable that you may have felt powerless or even felt a decline in your personal and financial self-worth as you have been impacted through, in most cases, no direct fault of your own.
It's time to change that now. It's time to take action. Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances, I promise you that there is something you can do right now to help improve your financial condition. If you are unemployed you can print a few more resumes, search the online job message boards more thoroughly, attend a few more get-togethers and mixers. If you own a small business, you can strategically improve your marketing, review your upcoming expenses, check to make sure your products are of the highest quality you can deliver. Even if you work for somebody else with little control over your job, you can review your own finances and plan better.
When you take action, you are putting the world on notice that you are not a victim. Even if you are influenced by the decisions and activities of others, so will they, be influenced by you.
That is the “buzz” that's in the environment right now. People are getting on with it.
